at some point, mabel had broke. at some point dipper’s
refusal in speaking to her & the UNCOMFORTABLE silence
was too much, & she broke. usual CHEERFULNESS is
replaced with empty stares & twitching fingers that grip the
sides of her sweaters to steady herself. she could go through
the motions, she WOULD continue their routine as if nothing
had happened. she would sit by her twin at breakfast & she
would watch T.V. with him at night because stan made them,
but it was without feeling. & at one point, when they sat four
feet apart as they blankly stared at the television & when they
wouldn’t even look at one another, she had left.
now she was here, in the middle of the forest on her knees, freezing
cold & pushing her nails into the dirt to try & FEEL something. the cold
has seeped through her sweater & past the PROTECTIVE cover of her
sparkly rain boots & she’s gone numb—- only the slippery feel of mud
slipping through her fingers & the tickling grass beneath her knees is the
only feeling she recognizes. & eventually she’s aware of the arm that
winds around her & the words he whispers in what she guesses is
supposed to be an APOLOGY. her tears flow freely now ( although by
now it’s raining so hard you can’t tell what are her tears & what is the rain )
& the hint of a smile ghosts upon PALE features as she leans into his chest
& breathes her response.
‘i know, dipper. you’ve told me.’
